Cecil Beaton (1904 – 1980) was a British fashion, portrait and war photographer, diarist, painter, and interior designer, as well as costume designer and set designer for stage and screen.
This book compiles his photographs, drawings, and journal extracts from 1945 to 1956. It showcases how art and culture were revitalized after the war, and that 'another world' was possible. The book features portraits of figures ranging from Pablo Picasso to Audrey Hepburn, writers such as Colette, Sartre, Jane and Paul Bowles, alongside articles and images from cities such as London, Paris, and Tokyo.
Beaton, by the way, learned the basics of photography from his nanny (who, by the way, remains unnamed).
